Cameron Highlands, Malaysia

Thanksgiving 2011

Last year we went to  Bali and enjoyed the sun and the beach, this year we opted for the Cameron Highlands and cooler weather.  Instead of a resort, we rented a house called Valley View on 2 acres.  It was beautiful and relaxing and exactly what we all needed.  The kids had grass and a yard to run around in.  There were even friendly dogs on the property that the kids absolutely adored.  We don't get that in Singapore.  The kids spent almost every waking hour outside in the cool weather.  The rain did not even bother them.  It just gave them something else to do.

Something we also did differently this holiday was we did not pack our day with "touristy" things to do.  We did one or two things a day and kept it leisurely.  We should holiday like this more often.

Tea Plantations, Strawberry farms, and jungle trekking to waterfalls were the high lights of our outings while we were there.  I am not normally an outdoorsy type of person but I really enjoyed everything I did.  Graham, Bryce and Layne experienced so many things that they would unlikely have done had we been back in Texas.  Although they are still young I hope they are able to remember these times.

The kids spent one afternoon flying kites.  Who knew kite flying could be so much fun.  They ran and ran until they could run no more.

Jungle trekking to waterfalls!  Lots of beautiful scenery but quite treacherous in my mind.

Another afternoon, all the children played in the rain.  They ran, splashed, raced, and slid in the mud!  In other words, they had a fabulous time.

The joys of being a kid.

Trying to catch rain drops!
This was the scenery as we drove away from the Cameron Highlands...
