Welcome to the Jungle: The Amazon~ Iquitos, Peru Day 1

October 6 - October 10, 2014 Spring Break

We have been planning this trip to Iquitos, Peru for months and months.  My cousins, Patty and Russell, came from the US to join us on the trip to the Amazon.  5 days in the jungle proved to be an adventure with a little bit of relaxation at the end of each day.

Before heading off to the Amazon we spent a few hours in Miraflores showing Patty and Russell the views of the cliffs and the ocean.  We were very lucky that it was a sunny day!

My cousins, Russell and Patty.  The kids thought it was amazing that a brother and sister would travel together as adults.  They could not imagine going on vacation together as adults by their own choice!

We headed off to the airport for a quick plane ride to Iquitos, Peru.  Leaving the cool weather in Lima for the hot weather in the Amazon was a nice change of pace...that is until the sweat started dripping.

We spent our first afternoon on a hike to the Cieba tree also known as a Kapok tree.  Our guide, Willie, was amazing.  He was so knowledgeable and very good at spotting wildlife in the jungle.
