Halloween

Halloween is a huge event for the kids.  They look forward to it every year.   Last year there was a shortage of pumpkins so we did not get to carve any but this year we re-instated the tradition and carved pumpkins once again.  Since it is so hot and humid here we had to do the carving the night before.  Any earlier and the chance of the pumpkins surviving are not high.

So Sunday afternoon the kids started the process of carving!  The girls really loved pulling the goo out but Graham did not really care for it.

On Monday afternoon at school all 3 kids had parades and parties to celebrated Halloween.  I love that they get to wear their costumes and really enjoy the festivities.

This year the girls decided to just swap costumes from last year.  I was quite surprised that they did not want new ones.  I even tried to coax them into new ones but they were content sharing.  So, this year Bryce was Belle and Layne was Ariel.  Graham, however, switched it up and was Luigi instead of Mario, like he was last year.

The kids before I let them loose to start trick or treating.

At the end of the night all the kids dumped their bags and checked out all their loot!  Overall, it was a great night.  Trick or Treating in Hillcrest Villa is so easy and friendly.  I will be so sad when we have to go back to the "rules" of Trick or Treating back in Texas.  The kids won't know what hit them. :)

Happy Halloween!

Big Buddha

Our next adventure was to head over the the Bid Buddha. We took the train over and then rode cable cars up to see the Big Buddha.  The cable car ride was majestic.  We were able to enjoy the sights and the kids loved being a detective...who could spot the Buddha first?

At the bottom of the staircase that leads up to the Buddha.  It was quite a trek to hike up the stairs but we all made it!

You can really see how enormous the statue is here when you compare it to size of the people.

Graham, Bryce and Layne did really well considering all the walking we had to do at the Buddha.  One day they will realize how lucky they are to experience such amazing places like the Buddha.  I had to wait 30 something years but my kids are doing it all before they are 10.  I just hope they can remember it all...at least we have pictures :).
