Day 3 The Canopy Walk, The Shaman, and Night Hike

October 6-10, 2014 Spring Break

Day 3 in the Amazon

We started the morning up VERY  early to head to the Canopy walk.  It started with an almost 2 hour boat ride to another lodge for an early breakfast and then a 2 mile hike into the jungle to reach the 14 bridges for the canopy walk.

On the hike out the rainforest we headed to the Shaman.  He taught us about the different medicinal purposes of the plants.  We were the only group there at the time so the kids really got to enjoy the personal time with the Shaman.

After lunch we were able to take a siesta in the hammock house while we waited for the other groups to finish up with their activities.

Right before we dinner, Willie took us on a night hike around our lodge.  We had our flashlights and headed off into the jungle.  At certain points he had us turn off all the lights and just listen to the sounds of the jungle.  It was pitch black except for the stars and the moon.  Luckily it was a full moon!

 Can you spot the animals?

After dinner, there was a traditional dance of the Yagua tribe.  The highlight was the snake dance.  Patty and Bryce made a run for the back of the room once the real snakes came out.  Graham, Layne and Russell were troopers and held the snakes.

It was a very busy day but definitely one to remember.

A quick Pisco sour before we head back to the boat.

The best way to top off the day is an afternoon cooling off in the pool!
